A double header against Stone, and two victories to start the season! A quality batting performance from Nick Holland (90) was the key to Dumbleton 1st XI's success over Stone on Saturday. Dumbleton were asked to bat in ideal bowling conditions - but despite losing early 4 wickets, Holland was able to stick around and keep the scoreboard ticking over. As the innings went on, he was able to score more freely and with support from Giles Lancaster and Tom Green, Dumbleton were able to post a competitive score of 164. Paul Englebrecht (5-55) and Tom Green (3-26) then ripped through Stone's top order - taking 5 wickets in the first 8 overs. Despite some brave resistance from the lower order, Stone were eventually bowled out for 130. Dumbleton also won the 2nd team fixture. A century from Craig Sharp and 76 from Graham Piesse enabled them to amass 251 which was always out of reach for the visitors. Mark Elliot picked up 4-54 as Stone were bowled out for 189. On Sunday, Dumbleton progressed to round 3 of the Village Knockout Cup after opponents Old Down were unable to raise a team.
